VIDEO: Peters, Stabenow Highlight Michigan Priorities in Bipartisan Senate Infrastructure Bill

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senators Gary Peters (MI) and Debbie Stabenow (MI) today held a virtual press conference to highlight Michigan priorities in the bipartisan infrastructure legislation that is expected to soon pass the Senate. “It’s exciting because we’re finally addressing infrastructure, basic infrastructure — roads and bridges in this country that have been neglected for far too long,” said Senator Peters during the virtual press conference. “What I heard as I traveled around the state of Michigan talking to folks about the needs that we have and what I heard over and over again is you have to be big, you have to be bold and we cannot accept being 13th in the world in terms of infrastructure. We know in the State of Michigan our infrastructure has declined over many years and we need to provide additional resources for that… That’s going to make a significant difference in the lives of Michiganders day in and day out. It’s also about creating a lot of good-paying jobs.”

“This bill is really great for Michigan. I’d have to say that Michigan is on every page,” said Senator Stabenow during the virtual press conference. “Michigan will see about a 31% increase in federal funding to build roads and bridges. This bill also makes the single largest investment in the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. This investment is going to do a number of things, including additional resources to modernize the Soo Locks. The bottom line is, it is great for Michigan.”
