Peters, Stabenow Announce Over $343,000 in Support of Fire Departments in Flushing, Albee Twp.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Gary Peters (MI) and Debbie Stabenow (MI) today announced $274,727 for the Flushing Fire Department and $69,047 for the Albee Township Fire Department to purchase new equipment and improve services. These grants comes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Assistance to Firefighters Grants program.

“Michigan’s first responders help make our communities safe places to live, work and raise a family,” said Senator Peters. “I’m pleased to announce this funding, which will help departments in Flushing and Albee Township do their jobs safely and effectively.”

"Our firefighters in Genesee and Saginaw counties put their lives on the line to protect our families, homes, and communities," said Senator Stabenow. "These new resources will provide critical training and give our first responders the equipment they need to better serve the public and do their jobs more safely and effectively.”

“We are very grateful for the grant awarded to our department,” said Tom Gerding, Fire Chief of Albee Township Fire Department. “This grant will allow us to continue improving upon the service we provide to protect the residents and visitors of Albee Township.”

Eligible fire departments and Emergency Medical Services organizations in Michigan and across the country can apply for Assistance to Firefighters Grants. These competitive grants help first responders purchase the equipment and obtain the training needed to handle fire-related hazards.
