WASHINGTON, D.C - U.S. Senators Gary Peters (MI) and Debbie Stabenow (MI) today announced that the Athens Township Fire Department will receive $331,039 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to purchase radios and a compressor to update their self-contained breathing apparatuses. The funding comes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program.
“Firefighters put their lives on the line every day to keep our families and communities safe,” said Senator Peters. “This federal support will be used to provide firefighters in Athens Township with new equipment they need to do their jobs safely and effectively.”
“Our firefighters put their lives on the line to protect our families, homes, and communities,” said Senator Stabenow. “These new resources will help keep the public safe and give our first responders the equipment they need to do their jobs more safely and effectively.”
“When you are running into an emergency, you want to know that your equipment will work. These funds will help us do our jobs safely. I want to thank Senator Stabenow and Peters for their ongoing support,” said Steven Wart, Fire Chief of Athens Township.
