Senators Peters, Stabenow Announce over $2.5 Million for Gerald R. Ford International Airport

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Gary Peters and Debbie Stabenow today announced that the Gerald R. Ford International Airport Authority will receive $2,547,780 to rehabilitate runways at the Gerald R. Ford International Airport. The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration as a part of the Runway Incursion Mitigation Program.

"Travelers to and from West Michigan rely on the Gerald Ford Airport for safe and reliable transportation," said Senator Peters. "I am pleased that this funding will help the airport update their master plan so they can continue to improve operations and ensure fliers have a pleasant experience."

“This investment will make traveling to and from Grand Rapids safer and more efficient,” said Senator Stabenow. “Safe and reliable air travel will also help encourage businesses to invest in the region and create jobs.”

The Runway Incursion Management program helps airports reduce the risk of runway incursions.  Incursions occur when an aircraft, vehicle, or person enters the protected area of an airport designated for aircraft landings and take offs. The FAA has developed an updated inventory of airport locations where runway incursions have occurred and is now working with airports on mitigation strategies.
