Senators Peters & Stabenow Announce $8 Million DOT Investment to Improve Access to EV Chargers Across Mid Michigan

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senators Gary Peters (MI) and Debbie Stabenow (MI) announced $8 million in federal funding awarded to the City of Lansing to increase publicly available electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. As part of this investment, up to 50 additional EV charging stations will be installed in Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham counties. Funding is made available through the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Grant Program, which was established by the bipartisan infrastructure law the Senators helped enact.

“As the number of EVs on our roadways continues to grow, we must build out a robust and reliable charging network,” said Senator Peters. “This investment will put state of the art critical infrastructure in the communities where people live and work, creating jobs and supporting a successful, responsible EV transition.”

“Electric vehicles are a key part of our clean energy future. But you can’t drive one without access to convenient charging stations. This investment will help ensure we have more public charging stations in Mid Michigan so that it’s easier for people to drive the electric vehicles being made here in Michigan,” said Senator Stabenow.

The DOT’s Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Grant Program is making historic investments across the country to improve access to EV charging stations, as well as other alternative fueling infrastructure. More information about the program can be found here.
