Senator Peters Statement on the Anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade Decision

DETROIT, MI –  U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI) released the following statement in advance of the 51st anniversary of the 1973 Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade on Monday, January 22:

“The anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision is a reminder that more than 50 years later we still have to keep up the fight to protect every woman’s right to choose. Republicans at every level of government are working to pass laws to make abortion illegal and to criminalize vital health care procedures, and we’ve started to see the devastating impacts these efforts have had on women across the country. It’s unacceptable that women today have fewer rights than their mothers and grandmothers did, and we must continue to fight until women in every state can make these personal decisions without politicians and judges getting in the way.”

In 2020, Peters became the first U.S. Senator to publicly share his personal abortion story.
