Sen. Peters’ Statement on 15th Anniversary of 9/11 Terrorist Attacks

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI) released the following statement commemorating the 15th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001:

“Fifteen years ago, our country was shaken to its core following the tragic terrorist attack that took the lives of 2,977 Americans. The pain and heartbreak that it caused for the victims’ loved ones, our nation, and the entire world will never be forgotten. But the loss and sorrow of September 11 was met by the strength and resolve of the American spirit. The American people rallied together to provide comfort and solace to one another, demonstrating the true compassion, heroism, and patriotism that fuels our country’s solidarity.

“Today, we continue to mourn those who were killed in New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania, while honoring the brave first responders and servicemembers who risked their own safety that day and in the fifteen years since. We are forever grateful for their courage and sacrifice, which have helped keep our communities safe and strengthened our country’s commitment to freedom and democracy. As a former Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve and a member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, I am very focused on doing all that we can to protect the United States from critical national security challenges and threats. We must ensure our military, first responders, and law enforcement professionals have the tools, resources, and information they need to prevent future terrorist attacks here at home and abroad. Our men and women in uniform are the best in the world, and I thank them for their ongoing efforts to keep our families shielded from enemies that do not share our values and seek to do us harm. God bless them, may God bless the memories of the 9/11 victims, and may God continue to bless America with unity and strength in the face of adversity.”
