Senator a Member of Subcommittees on: Agriculture; Commerce; Homeland Security; Interior and Environment; and Military Construction, Veterans Affairs
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI), a new member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, will serve on the following subcommittees:
“As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I’m committed to ensuring Michigan has the federal resources necessary to address issues important to our state and that taxpayer dollars are used effectively,” said Senator Peters. “This is a valuable opportunity to continue my focus on our nation’s homeland security and advance our state’s priorities, including protecting our public health and the Great Lakes, expanding workforce development and manufacturing, and supporting Michigan agriculture.
“I also look forward to advocating for Michigan veterans and our defense facilities, including Selfridge, Camp Grayling, Battle Creek and Alpena that are critical to our state’s economy and our national security.”
Peters is the first Michigan senator to serve on the Senate Appropriations Committee in decades. The Appropriations Committee is responsible for drafting the legislation that allocates federal resources to government agencies, our national defense, and organizations on an annual basis. Peters will also continue to Chair the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and serve on the Senate Armed Services Committee and the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, where he again is Chair of the Surface Transportation, Maritime, Freight and Ports Subcommittee.
