Peters Statement on Status of Electric Vehicle Tax Credit

DETROIT, MI U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI) today released the following statement after recent reporting said the electric vehicle (EV) tax credit will not be included in upcoming Senate legislation aimed at lowering costs for American families and workers:

“If recent reports are true, failing to include the electric vehicle tax credit in legislation to lower costs would be a significant misstep and setback for American workers and auto manufacturers,” said Senator Peters. “The future of the auto industry is electric and this is about creating good-paying jobs in Michigan and across the country and shoring up domestic manufacturing while working to tackle the climate crisis.

“It’s unacceptable and unconscionable to cede American innovation and economic opportunity to foreign competitors, like the Chinese government. I will continue to stand up for Michigan and American workers and fight for efforts that spur job creation and innovation in the Senate.”
