Peters Statement on President Trump’s Health Care Speech

WASHINGTON, DCU.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI) today released the following statement after President Trump’s health care speech:

“Let’s be very clear: President Trump and his Administration is still pushing a lawsuit – which is set to be considered before the Supreme Court this fall – that would end health protections for Michiganders and Americans with pre-existing conditions and raise health care costs. The reckless lawsuit seeking to overturn the health care law would mean being a woman could again be treated as a pre-existing condition, the return of annual and lifetime limits on coverage, and more expensive prescription drugs for seniors on Medicare. This effort by the Trump Administration is particularly outrageous during a once-in-a-century pandemic and access to quality health care is more important than ever for Michiganders.

“We simply can’t go back to the days when insurance companies called the shots on health care for Michiganders. Unfortunately that’s exactly what the Trump Administration is pushing for with its lawsuit before the Supreme Court. And with the recent vacancy on the Supreme Court, there couldn’t be more at stake for Michigan.

“That’s why I’m going to keep fighting to protect those with pre-existing health conditions, lower costs of care and prescription drugs, and build off the successes of our health care law so that we expand access to quality, affordable health care.”
