WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and former Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve, released the following statement in honor of Memorial Day:
“From the fight for American independence to the fight against ISIS, millions of American servicemembers have laid their lives on the line to make our country a stronger and safer place to live. Today, we honor the men and women in uniform who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms, our values and our way of life. Memorial Day is a patriotic day of remembrance – a time to pay tribute to our fallen soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines and to thank those currently serving in the military, who stand ready for battle in the name of the United States of America and all that we stand for. We owe them - and their families - a debt of gratitude that can never be truly repaid.”
