Peters Statement on Federal Court Ruling Against FDA Approval of Key Abortion Medication

WASHINGTON, DC U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI) released the following statement after a federal judge in Texas ruled against the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) approval of mifepristone, a key and widely-used abortion medication – the most consequential ruling to limit access to safe abortion care since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last June:

“This ruling is dangerous and cruel. Medication abortion is a safe, widely-used form of reproductive health care that’s been available to Americans for more than 20 years. While this is a major setback, I won't stop fighting to protect access to this essential care and every American’s right to make these extremely personal, private decisions without interference from politicians or judges.”

Peters was the first U.S. Senator to publicly share his family’s personal abortion story – which he again discussed during an ELLE Magazine roundtable and told on the Senate floor. Last year, Peters was also featured in a USA Today story, speaking about his family’s story.
