Peters, Stabenow Announce Support for Scio Township Fire Department

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Gary Peters and Debbie Stabenow announced that the Scio Township Fire Department will receive $29,500 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Program to help recruit new full-time firefighters.

“Residents rely on the vital protection firefighters provide in the event of an emergency,” said Senator Peters. “This funding will help support the staffing needs of the Scio Township Fire Department so they can efficiently do their jobs and protect public safety.”

"Our firefighters put their lives on the line every day to protect our families, homes, and communities," said Senator Stabenow. "These resources will help Scio Township Fire Department make sure there is always someone there to answer the call in an emergency."

The SAFER Program is administered by the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The purpose of the program is to ensure that fire departments nationwide are fully staffed and equipped to strengthen the Nation’s overall level of preparedness and ability to respond to fire and related hazards.
