Peters, Stabenow Announce Over $2 Million in Federal Funds for Cherry Capital Airport

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Gary Peters (MI) and Debbie Stabenow (MI) today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation will be awarding $2,095,000 to Cherry Capital Airport. This Federal Aviation Administration grant will invest in the safety of the airport by purchasing a replacement aircraft rescue and fire fighting vehicle and removing any road obstructions. The grant is made possible because of the American Rescue Plan Act, which Senators Peters and Stabenow helped pass in Congress.

“Safe and reliable air travel is critical to keeping communities and businesses in Northern Michigan connected to important markets and destinations, particularly as we work to rebuild from this pandemic,” said Senator Peters. “I’m pleased to announce this federal grant to Cherry Capital Airport in Traverse City, which will help strengthen the airport’s transportation infrastructure and provide safer travel for Michiganders.”

"Having reliable and safe air service is important to Michigan tourism, commerce, and economic development," said Senator Stabenow. "This grant is an important investment in the infrastructure of our airports and will help our communities rebound from the pandemic."
