Peters, Stabenow Announce Over $11 Million for Improvements at Bishop International and MBS International Airports

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senators Gary Peters (MI) and Debbie Stabenow (MI) announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) will be awarding Bishop International Airport and MBS International Airport in Saginaw each a grant through the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Airport Improvement Program. Bishop International Airport will receive $5,845,222 to reconstruct an aircraft rescue and fire fighting building. MBS International Airport will receive $5,636,628 to rehabilitate a runway and install a runway visual guidance system that is important for safety.

“Local airports are economic engines for communities across our state, and it’s critical they have the resources they need to operate effectively and safely,” said Senator Peters. “This federal funding will help Bishop International Airport and MBS International Airport make necessary updates to ensure travelers in the Great Lakes Bay Region can get where they need to go safely.”

“Having reliable and safe air service is crucial for economic development, commerce, and tourism,” said Senator Stabenow. “This funding is another critical infrastructure investment coming to our state and will improve Bishop and MBS Airports for years to come.”
