WASHINGTON, D.C - U.S. Senators Gary Peters (MI) and Debbie Stabenow (MI) today announced that the New Baltimore Fire Department will receive $230,452 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to replace their self-contained breathing apparatuses. The funding comes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program.
“Firefighters put their lives on the line to protect our communities, and we need to make sure they have the resources necessary to do so safely and effectively,” said Senator Peters. “This funding will help the fire department in New Baltimore continue to best serve their communities.”
“Our firefighters put their lives on the line to protect our families, homes, and communities,” said Senator Stabenow. “These new resources will help keep the public safe and give our first responders the equipment they need to do their jobs more safely and effectively.”
“This could not have come at a better time. Many of our self-contained breathing apparatus need to be replaced. The last thing you want is to go into a burning building and realize your equipment has failed. I want to thank Senators Stabenow and Peters for their support,” said Jeff Stellmen, New Baltimore Fire Chief.
