Senator Helps Grosse Pointe Resident and Vietnam War Veteran Claim VA Benefits
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI) today launched “On the Job for Michigan,” a series highlighting the successful work of his office resolving cases involving federal agencies on behalf of Michiganders. In the first installment of the series, Grosse Pointe resident Tom Koenig and Vietnam War veteran shared how Peters’ office assisted him in claiming benefits through the Department of Veterans Affairs. Tom served in the Brown Water Navy in the Vietnam War. His duties placed him in the rivers and canals of the Vietnamese jungle. Following his service, Tom has since developed medical issues related to Agent Orange exposure, in addition to PTSD. Tom reached out to Peters’ office for help navigating the appeals process through the VA on multiple occasions, and Tom was granted VA benefits for his service-connected claims.
