Macomb Company Nearly Doubles its Manufacturing Floor Space, Plans to Hire 40 Additional Workers
MACOMB TOWNSHIP, MI – U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI) joined Triumph Gear Systems in Macomb today for a ribbon cutting ceremony as the manufacturer and supplier for the aerospace industry opens a new building at its existing facility, nearly doubling its manufacturing floor space to 112,000 square feet. The Macomb facility currently employs 240 workers, and the expansion will allow the company to hire an additional 40 employees over the next five years. Peters was joined by Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel, Triumph Gear Systems – Macomb General Manager Jim Diez, and members of the Macomb County Chamber of Commerce.
“Manufacturing is the backbone of Michigan’s economy,” said Senator Peters. “It supports the good-paying jobs that are essential to maintaining a robust middle class, and we can’t have a strong economy without a strong middle class. This expansion at Triumph Gear Systems - Macomb is a good sign that our state’s manufacturing industry is continuing to move in the right direction and business is booming in Southeast Michigan.”
“Our plant expansion and long history of continuous operation in this area shows our commitment as a good partner with Macomb County,” said Jim Diez, General Manager for Triumph Gear Systems – Macomb. “With this substantial facility expansion to increase our capacity, we are looking forward to expanding our workforce with skilled machine operators and program management to support long term projects and continued investment as we continue to grow here in Macomb. Senator Peters has been an unwavering advocate for Michigan’s manufacturing industry, and we are glad to have him here with us for today’s announcement.”

Triumph Gear Systems – Macomb specializes in the design, development, manufacture, sale and repair of gearboxes, high-lift flight control actuators, gear-driven actuators, and gears for the aerospace industry. It is a subsidiary of Triumph Group, Inc., a global leader in manufacturing and overhauling aerospace structures, systems and components.
Senator Peters has been a strong supporter of Michigan’s manufacturing sector in Congress. Just this week, he joined his colleagues in sending a letter to the Senate Appropriations Committee leaders expressing support for robust funding for the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) program in the next fiscal year. The MEP is the only public-private partnership dedicated to providing technical support and services to small and medium-sized manufacturers in every state. As a member of the House, Peters introduced bipartisan legislation to lower MEP participation costs for states and businesses.
Senator Peters is also a strong supporter of long-term reauthorization for the Export-Import Bank, the independent federal agency that supports jobs by filling gaps in private export financing at no cost to American taxpayers, helping U.S. companies compete more effectively in the global marketplace. Since 2007, the Export-Import Bank has helped 220 Michigan companies – many of them in the manufacturing and aerospace industries – export $11 billion worth of goods. The agency’s current charter ends June 30, 2015.
