Resolution Encourages Responsible Participation in Recreational Activities in the Great Outdoors
WASHINGTON, DC – A bipartisan resolution introduced by U.S. Senators Gary Peters (D-MI) and Steve Daines (R-MT) designating June 2024 as “Great Outdoors Month” passed the U.S. Senate.
“Michigan’s remarkable lakes and landscapes are enjoyed by both Michiganders and visitors who travel to our state for outdoor recreation opportunities,” said Senator Peters. “I’m proud that the Senate passed this resolution to encourage folks to spend time outdoors and to highlight the importance of preserving these natural treasures for future generations to enjoy.”
In June 2023, the National Park Service reported nearly 39 million individual recreation visits to America’s 63 National Parks. Michigan’s Department of Natural Resources estimates 30 million visitors annually to Michigan’s 103 state parks.
