Peters Attends Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce’s 2015 Annual Celebration

TRAVERSE CITY, MI –U.S. Senator Gary Peters attended the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce’s 2015 Annual Celebration dinner to recognize the contributions of the Traverse City business community. This year’s celebration marked the 100th anniversary of the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce’s founding.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and Traverse City area businesses play a unique role in shaping the surrounding communities,’ said Peters. “The Traverse City business community builds on the natural beauty and natural resources of the Great Lakes to support some of the best tourism and agricultural production in the country. It’s an honor to be here celebrating the hard working small businesses that make Traverse City such a great place to work, live and raise a family.”

Peters was appointed to serve on the Senate Small Business Committee where he will continue to focus on growing the economy and creating jobs by supporting small businesses and promoting entrepreneurship and innovation. In the U.S. House of Representatives, Peters was a strong advocate for small businesses. He developed the State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI) to ensure that small businesses have access to the capital they need to continue to grow and hire locally.

The Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce presented its annual Distinguished Service Award to Susanne M. (Susie) Janis during the event. Janis has served the Traverse City community for four decades. She is currently involved with several local organizations, including the Grand Traverse Community Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Michigan and the Front Street Writers group.

“Susie has been a tireless advocate for the Grand Traverse area, and I congratulate her on her tremendous accomplishments and thank her for her commitment to the community,” said Peters.
