Peters Announces Key Homeland Security Subcommittee Assignments

WASHINGTON, DC –U.S. Senator Gary Peters (D-MI), a member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs committee, announced his appointment to two key subcommittees overseeing federal spending and services. Peters was named to the Subcommittee on Federal Spending Oversight and Emergency Management (FSO) and the Subcommittee on Regulatory Affairs and Federal Management (RAFM).

“I am honored to serve on these two important subcommittees to provide greater oversight of government spending and services so that Americans and our homeland are safe and protected,’ said Senator Peters. “I am committed to working with my Democratic and Republican colleagues on these subcommittees to find ways for our government agencies to run more efficiently and effectively and keep our communities secure while continuing to streamline government and make it work better for taxpayers.”

The Subcommittee on Federal Spending Oversight and Emergency Management (FSO) is responsible for overseeing the effectiveness and efficiency of federal spending and preventing waste, fraud and abuse. The subcommittee also oversees policies related to federal contracts and emergency management for disasters, including the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The Subcommittee on Regulatory Affairs and Federal Management (RAFM) reviews the effectiveness and impact of federal rules and regulations, and oversees federal employees and the effectiveness of federal agencies and departments, including current national security methods.

The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee’s jurisdiction includes general government operations, and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in particular. The Committee oversees and supports the Department of Homeland Security’s mission to keep Americans safe, assist firefighters and law enforcement and facilitate trade and travel.
