After Securing Key Federal Funding for Project, Peters Welcomes the Unveiling of Plans for a New Cancer Clinic at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba

Peters Supported OSF HealthCare’s Request, Helped Secure $1.5 Million in Federal Funding Toward Making New Facility a Reality

ESCANABA, MI – U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI) welcomes the unveiling of plans for a new cancer clinic at OSF HealthCare St. Francis Hospital & Medical Group in Escanaba, after helping to secure key federal funding to jumpstart the project. The $1.5 million in funding supported by Peters will allow OSF St. Francis to relocate oncology services from its current location within the hospital’s Medical Office Building to a new larger, separate facility on the hospital campus. The move will provide additional space and enhanced services for patients facing a cancer diagnosis or undergoing cancer treatments – and result in more access to cancer care for residents.

“So many families in Michigan and across the country have been affected by cancer. Anyone who has experienced it themselves or watched a loved one undergo treatment knows just how difficult it can be,” said Senator Peters. “That’s why I was proud to help secure $1.5 million in federal funding to help make this new facility a reality – and enable OSF St. Francis to not only expand but enhance services available to patients, and meet its high and growing demand for cancer care in the region.”

“This clinic is also a prime example of why investing in rural health care across-the-board is so important,” Peters continued. “As the only hospital within a 50 mile radius, OSF St. Francis plays an essential role in ensuring families and residents throughout the Upper Peninsula can access the care they need – whether it’s a routine check-up, medical treatment, or a life-saving emergency procedure. I’ll continue working in the U.S. Senate to ensure rural providers in Michigan and across the country have the support and resources they need to continue providing quality, affordable care to those who need it most.”

“We are very appreciative to Senator Peters for his support and effort to help secure the federal funding needed to help make this facility possible,” said OSF St. Francis Hospital & Medical Group President Kelly Jefferson. “This project will allow us to provide a heightened level of oncology services for the community that will help our patients not only survive but thrive.”
