9&10 News Traverse City: Sen. Peters Visits Sault Ste. Marie to Assess Northern Border Security

“We know how important investments are in the northern border,” said Senator Gary Peters, (D), Michigan.

Senator Gary Peters visited Sault Ste. Marie Sunday to speak with border security officials about the challenges facing our northern border.

Senator Peters serves as Ranking Member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

International Bridge Administration officials drove the senator across the bridge to the Canadian customs and back.

They made a stop along the way to see the international border and the Soo Locks from atop the bridge.

Senator Peters also toured the IBA building to get a firsthand account of the security setup.

“I’m happy to report that there was increased funding on the northern border investments, so it just wasn’t about the southern border, as important as that is. We will be able to bring more personnel and bring more technology to the northern border,” said Senator Peters.

Senator Peters helped write bipartisan legislation in December that was signed into law.
