U.S. Senator Gary Peters (D-MI) announced Thursday his appointment to the Senate Appropriations Committee for the 118th Congress.
The Appropriations Committee is responsible for drafting the legislation that allocates federal resources to government agencies, our national defense and organizations on an annual basis. It also is responsible for reviewing the President’s budget request, conducting oversight of federal funding, and hearing testimony from government officials and witnesses on that proposal as well as drafting supplemental funding bills for emergency situations.
Peters will also continue to Chair the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and serve on the Senate Armed Services Committee and the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee.
“I’m honored to join the Appropriations Committee, where I’ll have a platform to advocate for policies and programs that will continue helping make Michigan a great state to live, work and raise a family,” said Senator Peters. “I plan to focus on efforts that strengthen our country, bolster our economic competitiveness and domestic supply chains, expand skills training programs and encourage job creation, protect the Great Lakes, support our veterans and state’s defense footprint, invest in our infrastructure, and promote government efficiency by ensuring Michigan taxpayer dollars are put to good use.”
