Two bills authored by U.S. Sen. Gary Peters, D-Bloomfield Township, will fight human trafficking and get water-emergency information to first responders after President Joe Biden signed them into law on Tuesday.
One piece of bipartisan legislation will cement the existence of and provide support for the federal Center for Countering Human Trafficking. That organization oversees the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s efforts to combat human trafficking and the importation of products made with forced labor.
The law also expands and improves law enforcement training to counter trafficking.
Another Peters bill, signed on Tuesday, establishes a system to strengthen the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s ability to forecast floods, hurricanes, and tornados and share relevant information to local officials and first responders.
