Detroit Free Press: Peters to visit Middle East before returning to D.C.

WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Gary Peters, D-Mich., will travel to the Middle East this week to meet with officials in Iraq, Jordan and elsewhere to discuss ongoing efforts to combat ISIS.

Peters, a member of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, will travel with U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. The senators also will visit the United Arab Emirates and Qatar and visit a refugee camp in Jordan.

“Michigan service members are among the many brave men and women who have deployed in support of the mission to eliminate ISIS, and I look forward to meeting with our partners in the region to discuss our mutual goals of fighting terrorism and extremism and addressing the dire humanitarian crisis resulting from this violence," said Peters.
