WASHINGTON, D.C. — Athens Township Fire Department is expected to receive $331,039 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, according to a Wednesday announcement from U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters.
The funds are to purchase radios and a compressor to update their self-contained breathing apparatuses, according to the press release.
“Our firefighters put their lives on the line to protect our families, homes, and communities,” Stabenow said. “These new resources will help keep the public safe and give our first responders the equipment they need to do their jobs more safely and effectively.”
The funding comes from Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Assistance to Firefighters Grants program, according to the press release.
“Firefighters put their lives on the line every day to keep our families and communities safe,” Peters said. “This federal support will be used to provide firefighters in Athens Township with new equipment they need to do their jobs safely and effectively.”
“When you are running into an emergency, you want to know that your equipment will work. These funds will help us do our jobs safely. I want to thank Senator Stabenow and Peters for their ongoing support,” Steven Wart, Fire Chief of Athens Township said.
